The novel The Help by Kathryn Stockett takes place during the 1960s in Jackson, Mississippi. A girl that returns to her hometown of Jackson from college decides she wants to write a book about "the help" and what it is like to be a maid in Jackson, Mississippi. In a time where African American maids and white ladies cannot be more than friends, friendships are formed, and change finally starts in the city of Jackson.
